LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

LIHEAP is designed for households in need of assistance to help with the expense that occurs with their energy costs. These include electric, wood, coal, oil, gas, LP gas, and kerosene.  Applicants need to reapply only once per year.  Distribution is available throughout the eight county area including the counties of:
Carter
Greene
Hancock
Hawkins
John
son
Sullivan
Washington
Unicoi

 DOCUMENTATION NEEDED
NOTE: If the correct documentation is not submitted with the LIHEAP application, it will delay the processing of your application.

 I.                     Copy of Social Security numbers for ALL members of household (age one and older)

II.                  Proof of EARNED Income for All members of the household (EXCEPT “EARNED” income for those under 18 yrs old)

         Fixed Incomes  
(Examples: Social Security, SSI, Retirement and Pensions – submit most recent SS award letter or most recent bank
statement with US Treasury, treasury, etc. deposit(s) – name and address must be displayed on bank statement)

·         Employment – Gross Earned Income
   
(Examples: Regular workweek (no overtime) or salaried employment – submit past 30 days/4 weeks paystubs; Overtime – submit past 13 weeks paystubs)

For all other income, contact your local Neighborhood Service Center

Copy of highest monthly energy costs during the past 12 months
(if you use both electric and another source such as oil, wood, coal, etc. submit copies of costs for both sources). REMINDER: The company you list first on your LIHEAP application, e.g. electric, oil, etc. will be the account your assistance will be applied to, if you are eligible and sufficient funding is available
